Halogen lights are very normal to us all. They produce a hot, bright light and come in a very wide variety of types. There are lights intended for an extremely diverse range of outputs from small night lights to huge floodlights. There are outdoor lights, indoor lights, lights intended to attract fewer insects and many others. They have high power usage, low lifespan and are likely to fail as they are switched on and off. They also respond poorly to very cold temperatures.
Characteristics of LED Light Vs. Halogen Light
LED Light advantages
• Our leds last for a minimum of 50,000 (17 years if on for 8 hours a day)
• Our leds come with a 3 year guarantee against manufacture defect.
• Our leds operate at 65 degree C and can be handled when on, this is much safer than any other type of bulb.
• Our leds emit no infrared or ultraviolet rays. They are much better for your eyes, for your plants and for the condition of your fabrics.
• Our leds are much greener as they use only 6% of the energy used to power halogens.
• Our leds are more robust, they will not crack, smash or leave glass everywhere if mishandled.
Halogen Light disadvantages
• Halogen only last for 1 to 2,000 hours
• Most Halogen bulbs come with no guarantee
• Halogen bulbs run very hot indeed and would burn to touch
• Halogens emit infrared and ultraviolet rays.
• Halogens are very expensive to run – more electricity means more carbon tonnage
• Halogens crack and smash easily and leave glass everywhere.
